No institution comes from the blue. And every remarkable incident in the history of mankind has its own prelude. On the auspicious day of 3rd February in the year of 1957, the residents of the locality of nabagram happen to witness such an epoch making event to Cater the burgeoning demands for dissemination of Higher Education among the local populace- Nabagram Hiralal Paul College was founded. But many a real hero of social reformation of and remain unsung. Quite appropriately goes the saying in the locality of Nabagram that Nabagram could not dream of a college without Hiralal Paul. Duda indefatigable agility, philanthropic and altruistic endeavours of late Hiralal Paul the college was established. Dr BC Roy the then chief Minister government of West Bengal laid the foundation stone. Hiralal Babu had a dream to realise," I have just been able to plant a little sapling for the dissemination of Higher Education and it is impregnated with the potentiality of growing into a big tree with full Blossom if nourished with care in the years to come."

The college strikes in healthy balance of formal and informal interaction among the faculty, students and the members of the non teaching staff so as to create an ideal and latitudinarian and environment of learning. The college not only boost of academic excellence and cordial teacher student relationship but also has a eco friendly campus and quite ambiance. In 2005 the first cycle NAC Peer team visit took place and the college has been reaccredited by NAAC with a CGPA of 2.7 at B grade adopting the straight forward ABCD system in January 2016.

The college is presently celebrating its 60th year of foundation with a spate of seminars and special lectures organised by IQAC and the different departments. Prof. Aswini Kanta Roy, formerly Professor of the Jawaharlal Nehru University, renowned Scholars and political scientist gave his invaluable insight on the Kashmir problem. A national level seminar organised by IQAC was held on 24th March 2017. It was sponsored by NAAC. Another feather was added to the cap of the college with the Calcutta University approval of the postgraduate studies in the Bengali department. The first batch of MA student in the department of Bengali has been admitted for the session 2017-2018.
