ABOUT B.VOC
The Department of Bachelor of Vocational Courses (B. Voc.) was established in the Academic Year 2018-19 approved by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi, under the National Skill Quali?cation Framework (NSQF) and affiliated to University of Calcutta. The semester wise B.Voc. in Hospitality & Tourism and Retail Management under CBCS (Choice Based Credit System) programme offered to address the critical knowledge and skill-sets required to make the candidate “industry ready” and also shape “young-entrepreneurs” in the relevant sectors.
The proposed course curriculum has been designed as per the Qualification Packs/Model Curriculum released by Tourism & Hospitality Skill Council (THSC), New Delhi and Retailers’ Association Skill Council of India (RASCI), Mumbai. The curriculum includes general education and skill development components having extensive practical and on-the-job training along with periodic industrial visits and industry interactions. The college has industry partnerships with leading tourism, hotel & retail companies which are renewed from time to time.
Bachelor of Vocational (B.Voc.) Degree has multiple exits such as Diploma/Advanced Diploma under the NSQF. The B.Voc. programme is focused on universities and colleges providing undergraduate studies which would also incorporate specific job roles along with broad based general education. This would enable the graduates completing B.Voc. to make a meaningful participation in accelerating India’s economy by gaining appropriate employment, becoming entrepreneurs and creating hands-on skill knowledge.

The B.Voc. Hospitality and Tourism & Retail Management shall include

- 50% weightage has been assigned to Theory
- 10% weightage has been assigned to Practical
- 40% weightage has been assigned to Internship
- Project/Internship.
- Industrial Training.
- Soft Skills and Personality Development Programmes.

As per University Grants Commission, New Delhi letter D.O.No. F. 2-7/2014 (CC/NVEQF) Misc. dated 4th August 2016:
- Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc), a Bachelor level degree specified by UGC under section 22(3) of UGC Act, 1956 and notified in official Gazette of India dated 19th January, 2013 be recognized at par with other Bachelor level degrees for competitive exams conducted by Union/State Public Service Commission, Staff Selection Commission or other such bodies where the eligibility criteria is “Bachelor Degree in any discipline”.
- Students with B.Voc degree are to be considered for trans disciplinary vertical mobility into such courses where entry qualification is a Bachelor degree without specific requirement in a particular discipline.
B.VOC. RETAIL MANAGEMENT
Retail Sector has been at the helm of India's growth story. The Retail industry in India is vibrant and one of the fastest growing markets in the world especially in the sectors such as modern retail, traditional retail, e-commerce, direct selling, direct marketing etc. The BVoc. in Retail Management is a specialized undergraduate bachelor's degree programme which prepares the graduate to acquire such skills so that they become trained skilled manpower in the Retail sector. B.Voc. Retail Management acquires retail skills for marketing the product as per the needs of customers.
We believe in very professional approach and personalized approach to education. Department of Retail Management acts as a bridge to connect students to industry, with an education in Retail sector you will have a wide range of opportunities ahead of you. We intend to offer field education placements in our programmes to ensure that our students get real world experience so as to make them available to global market. Department of Retail Management focus to develop the required skills for understanding the dynamic requirements of retail industries pertaining to specific job role.
PROGRAMME OBJECTIVE:
- To provide judicious mix of skills relating to a profession and appropriate content of General Education.
- To integrate NSQF within the undergraduate level of higher education in order to enhance employability of the graduates and meet industry requirements.
- To develop a dynamic manpower suiting to the needs of industries in the context of better employability.
- To ensure that the students have adequate knowledge and skills, so that they are work ready at each exit point of the program.
- To expose students to hands-on experiences through Industry Internship (On the Job Training)
- To inculcate all the desired skills of standard operating procedures & service provisions to meet the needs of today’s customer by providing desired services required in Retail Industry.
- To infuse such skills amongst the students to engage with customers by addressing their merchandise needs to provide flexibility to the students by means of pre-defined entry and multiple exit points.

MISSION
The mission of Bachelor of Vocational courses (B.Voc.) is truly related to the job orientation of the students exposed to the job market. We want to improve their education and to integrate relevant skills into the higher education system. We provide employable and certifiable skills with theory, practical, internship and hands-on skill education, in order to make education relevant and to create INDUSTRY READY skilled workforce. The department is to become an agent for providing quality educational services and training programmes to develop competent and quality human resources for the Retail Industry.

WEAKNESSES:
- Lack of adequate awareness among the competent authority of the Government in general and the stakeholders in particular.
- Most of the students suffer from their communication skills as far as language is concerned as required by the industry.
- Reference books for vocational trade and practical were very less.
OPPORTUNITIES:
- Cent percent placement assured course.
- B.Voc. is one of the unique courses which offers our students vertical mobility to higher education as well as job opportunity.
- Students with a B.Voc. degree have various scopes in all the retail sectors including shopping malls and supply chain companies.
CHALLENGES:
- Laboratory maintenance is very expensive.
- Parents feel that vocational courses are inferior to general stream courses.
- As this course is a self financing one, it becomes difficult for the college to upgrade the infrastructure solely based on the fees being collected from the students.
- Resources to be generated from all the stakeholders as course fees are not affordable by the students hailing from the economically weaker section.
The SWOC analysis helps to identify the areas for improvement and growth, which will be addressed in line with the department’s mission and vision.
